    Note:  Fellowships are based at the Brookings Institution India Center in New Delhi, India.

     

    About Brookings India

    The Brookings Institution India Center serves as a platform for cutting-edge, independent, policy-relevant research and analysis on the opportunities and challenges facing India and the world. Established in 2013, the Center is based in New Delhi

     

    Fellow

    The Fellow is responsible for conducting independent research on one or more of Brookings India (BIIC) research areas including applied economics and public policy and must have a strong focus on India. Provides additional assistance to various other research projects in BIIC as appropriate. 

    Responsibilities

    Research (100%)

    • Defining, developing, and undertaking creative, policy-oriented research
    • Publishing journal articles, working papers, books, policy briefs, blogs, and short commentaries targeted to policy makers, academics, and the general public
    • Tracking policy developments in relevant areas and serving as spokesperson in those areas
    • Engaging in related policy outreach activities and speaking engagements
    • Participating in the design of expert group consultations and working groups
    • Supervising and providing mentorship for a research assistant
    • Participating in in-house research reviews
    • Participating in the preparation of foundation and other types of grant proposals

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience Requirements:

     

    PhD in Economics or a related discipline required.  Minimum five years of research and writing experience required preferably in a non-profit, research, or academic environment. A record of applying quantitative research methods to real-world problems to identify practical and action-oriented solutions. Demonstrated ability to take a project to completion. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently within a small, closely-knit organization and to contribute to the development of new initiatives preferred. Familiarity with political theory, public and/or social policy. 

     

    Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

     

    Extensive experience working with research tools and databases; strong computer skills; ability to work independently; strong written and oral language skills required; diplomacy, maturity, discretion, initiative and excellent interpersonal skills. Extensive experience with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Outlook and PowerPoint.
