    The Global Economy and Development program at Brookings aims to shape the policy debate on how to improve global economic cooperation and fight global poverty and sources of social stress.  The program’s research agenda is related to policies and trends affecting developing countries including global poverty, universal education, the global middle class, fragile states, globalization, inequality, foreign assistance and development effectiveness.

     

    This position is a one year term appointment.

    The Project Coordinator/Senior Project Coordinator (title will be determined by candidate experience) will directly support two senior fellows of the Global Economy and Development program on the following:

    1.  Development Assistance and Governance Initiative, which focuses on place-based policies and examines how they improve social progress both in the U.S. and globally. The work will focus on the Sustainable Development Goals and localizing them at the city level.
    2. Workforce of the Future project, which works towards policy solutions at the intersection of industrial diversification, growth and worker mobility in times of technological disruption.

    Primary responsibilities include: (1) providing strategic support: informing agendas for meetings; planning, coordinating, and implementing such activities; (2) providing qualitative research support; and (3) in collaboration with senior fellow, seeking out and identifying new opportunities for strategic engagement and exchange.

     

    Project Support (40%)

    • Coordinates communication plans – events, publications, and multimedia -- in consultation with Communications Manager and senior fellows
    • Works with Senior Fellow and Global Communications team to plan and design all levels and types of events (public and private; roundtables, conferences and seminars); helps develop participant lists, agendas, invites, and background materials
    • Coordinates speaker and participant travel and hotel reservations, and expense reimbursement in accordance with Brookings guidelines
    • Handles logistics and planning arrangements for event execution, including Brookings administrative forms and processes relating to events; manages site arrangements, including reservations, audio-visual needs, seating, remote-participant support, and catering.
    • In collaboration with Global Finance team, obtains and coordinates external contract services, as necessary. Serves as liaison with hotels, caterers, and other vendors; maintains files on external vendors, service estimates, and fulfillment of service payments.
    • Completes post-event responsibilities, which includes drafting event summary for editing, and managing communications with speakers and attendees
    • Collaborate with the Global Development team on fundraising-related tasks including donor cultivation, drafting proposals, grant reports, donor meetings, etc.
    • Supports Senior Fellow on program impact tracking and grant reporting.

    Research Assistance (40%)

    • Conducts qualitative research on topics relevant to senior fellows’ work
    • Conducts literature reviews, synthesizes findings, monitors and analyzes relevant material from conferences and seminars, government documents, academic journals and policy publications, institutional databases and reports from a wide variety of sources, including development organizations and non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
    • Writes high-quality research summary notes and reports, media summaries and briefing memos; compiles detailed data methodologies both for internal use and for publication.
    • Participates in the dissemination, communication and presentation of research findings; assists with drafting, editing, and proof reading of materials for publication; provides support in the preparation of presentations, blog posts, and policy briefs.

     

    Administrative and Operational Support (20%) 

    • Handles overall administrative/logistical prioritization for Senior Fellow; manages scheduling and handles incoming queries
    • Makes travel arrangements and processes expense and reimbursement reports
    • Coordinates and handles outreach mailings (books and other publications) on behalf of project and Senior Fellows
    • Maintains and updates contacts database.

    Education/Experience Requirements:

     

    Bachelor’s degree with a concentration in Economics, International Development, International Affairs, Public Policy or related social science required; Master’s degree preferred.  Strong academic record. Minimum of two years combined work experience in project coordination and research in an academic, think-tank, or NGO environment required.  Experience working with governmental and non-governmental organizations (NGOs) on international development and economics issues is highly desirable.  Proven ability to work with senior level stakeholders. Experience living, working, and/or studying abroad is a plus

     

    Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

     

    Excellent oral and written communication skills required. Ability to work independently and within a team to effectively multi-task, prioritize, and meet multiple deadlines with accuracy and precision in a fast-paced work environment.  Strong organizational skills with professional demeanor and work ethic. Cooperative attitude and flexibility with a willingness to back up others.  Competence to undertake assignments with little supervision. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (MS) Suite (including Outlook, Word, Excel, Powerpoint), and database software.   Familiarity with or interest in international development is preferred.  Complete English language fluency required.  Must be currently authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
