    The Executive Office at Brookings oversees the research and operations of the Institution.

     

    Responsibilities

    Working on a small and dynamic team, the Research and Project Assistant provides research, writing and project support to the office of the President. The Research and Project Assistant also contributes to the overall effective operations of the office and supports a variety of projects, meetings and communications in support of the Executive Office team, to include the development, implementation and tracking of the President’s internal engagement. This position reports to the Special Advisor and Speechwriter and supports the Chief of Staff with work related to internal engagement and administrative support.

     

    Research, Writing and Project Coordination (60%):

    • Working with the Special Advisor and Speechwriter, provides research, writing and other support on the development of concept notes, decision memos, blogs, scripts, op-Ed’s and briefing materials for the President.
    • Coordinates a variety of projects to support the priorities and activities of the President and Executive Office. This may include direct and indirect support to the VP, Strategy and Executive Vice President.
    • Supports the quality review and completion of materials for the President. This includes checking data, fact checking, editing and proofreading.
    • Researches and tracks issues related to the work and priorities of the President.
    • Supports the drafting of talking points and remarks for meetings or public events as needed.
    • Identifies major media trends and monitor major publications and authors.
    • Provides project coordination and other support as needed during high profile events, including board meetings.
    • Compiles information for time sensitive and/or special projects.

     President’s Internal Engagement (25%):

    • Working with the Special Advisor and Speechwriter, Chief of Staff and other Executive Office colleagues, coordinates internal communications and activities for the President. Supports the development of objectives and consistent mechanisms for his communications.
    • Working with the Special Advisor and Speechwriter, Chief of Staff and other Executive Office colleagues, identifies and recommends internal activities and communications for the President.
    • Drafts communications and correspondence for various audiences.
    • Supports the development of a quarterly internal engagement plan and actively tracks activities.
    • Coordinates the President’s Leadership Series and collaborates with the President, the Special Advisor and Speechwriter and other colleagues to identify topics and speakers. Researches topics and speakers and makes recommendations and drafts related communications.

     Office Operations and Administrative Support (15%):

    • Working with the Senior Advisor and Speechwriter and Chief of Staff, coordinates and sets the agenda for daily and other regular check ins and planning meetings with the President’s office staff.
    • Back-up assistance for the Chief of Staff and the Special Advisor and Speechwriter as needed.
    • Undertakes other duties and special projects as needed.

    Education/Experience Requirements:

     

    Bachelor’s degree in a social science, humanities, or related field required. International affairs and/or political science experience preferred. One year of relevant professional experience, including writing and editing is required. Experience in a non-profit policy research organization is preferred. Must be currently authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.

     

     

    Knowledge/Skills Requirements:

    Research: Excellent research and analysis skills required. Familiarity with public policy issues preferred.

    Writing: Excellent written skills are essential to this position’s success, including, fact checking, editing, and proofreading. Must be able to write clearly and concisely for different audiences.

    Organizational Skills: Must possess excellent organizational skills and a proactive approach with a high level of attention to detail; and be able to work independently, multi-task, and complete tasks in a timely manner.

    Communication Skills: Complete fluency in written and spoken English is required; ability to interact with all levels of internal and external stakeholders required

    Interpersonal Skills and Work Style: Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Must possess the poise, tact, discretion, and mature judgment to handle and respond appropriately and professionally in a high-pressure and dynamic atmosphere.  High degree of professionalism with discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality of highly sensitive information; high commitment to customer service; ability to plan ahead and plan proactively.

    Technical Skills: Must possess advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Office 365
