Position Location:This position is hybrid. Hybrid positions combine regular in-person presence at our Washington, DC office with the option of at least two days of remote work each week.

The Multimedia Specialist works with the Office of Communications and reports to the Director of Multimedia Storytelling. In collaboration with the multimedia team, the specialist will develop motion graphics and original animations that elevate complex ideas and data found in Brookings’ research papers. This can include graphs, maps, text elements, motion graphics templates, backgrounds, puppeted AE character animations, and more. The Specialist will also edit audio and video and have a passion for social media and how different media lives on each platform.
Motion Designer (50%)
Responsible for designing, developing, building, and delivering high quality, on brand animations and motion graphics
Consult with the Director of Multimedia Storytelling and sketch out storyboards for projects
Develop/Create original graphics for multimedia projects;
Collaborate with Brookings’ programs on ways to visualize complex data sets utilizing motion graphics;
Create original graphical style treatments for new multimedia products;
Consult with data visualization expert and others to develop graphics, animation, maps and other visual elements for multimedia production.
Editor (40%)
Edit video and audio clips and packages on- and off-site;
Identify and edit appropriate still photographs to use in animations;
Create graphic elements for multimedia and B-roll products;
Be able to record and edit audio associated with motion graphics or animation projects
Assist the Podcasting team in editing audio podcasts
Format clips and packages for distribution to the media and other users;
Proven expertise in Adobe Creative Suite
Help manage video and audio assets within shared storage environment;
Assist Scholars and Communication Directors in developing creative ideas for visual interest
Audit existing content materials (film footage, animated graphics, lower thirds) to re-purpose for newly created assets as needed
Work closely with promotions team to develop and produce multimedia products for social media platforms
Work effectively with a multitude of departments and multimedia specialists (video editors, graphic designers, producers, etc.)Enter metadata for raw video and multimedia products into the Brookings server;
Work with multimedia team to establish and maintain quality standards and observe Brookings style guide in multimedia production;
Stay abreast of, make recommendations, and assist with the integration of new technologies for the web, in-house studio, and field;
Assist with other Communications projects as necessary;
Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required. A minimum of two years professional work experience animating required. Experience working with media in a fast-paced, policy-oriented environment preferred. Experience with web-based communications a plus. Must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S.
Knowledge/Skills Requirements:
Must be a self-starter, requiring minimal supervision. Excellent time management skills and the ability to work collaboratively to meet deadlines required. Must possess a working knowledge of HD camera systems. Experience operating video cameras, editing with non-linear software including Final Cut Pro, After Effects, and Premier required. Other software includes Photoshop, Vantage, and Cinematize Pro. Ability to work well as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal skills, discretion, poise, mature judgment; ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Interest or experience in public affairs preferred, but not required. Portfolio with relevant work experience and examples required.
